Before you ever go and spend a dollar on traffic or spend one minute of your time trying to generate traffic, you need to first learn the fundamentals of traffic generation.
Another piece of good advice is to choose one traffic method that resonates with you (and ONLY one). Aim to become one of the best with this traffic method.
Every single successful entrepreneur started out where you are right now. Your success will come down to how well your take action, focus, and learn from your mistakes, and your level of persistence. Don’t expect a miracle overnight – this will take time, but believe me, it’s worth it.
Targeted Vs. Non-Targeted Traffic
Think of the people behind those ‘clicks’. Non-targeted traffic are those who are not really interested in the products we sell. Trying to convert that traffic is much harder.
The more targeted the traffic, the more specific you have to be with your audience selection, and the more expensive it becomes. This traffic converts the best, meaning – they are most likely to buy what you’re offering).
Your Customer Avatar
Before you spend a dime on traffic, you need to know: who are your ideal prospects? It seems like an obvious question but you’d be amazed at how many people go and start marketing blindly without having a clear answer to that question.
When you start marketing, you need to have all three of the items in The Marketing Triangle.
- Message – When we place an ad, the message in the ad has to be the right message for our ideal prospect. It’s got to get their attention.
- Media – Your audience must be consuming the right media that your ads are located in either online or in print. If our audience is not reading it, if they’re not seeing it, they’re not going to see the ads and of course, we’re not going to reach them.
- Market – We have to be going after the right person. For example, if your age group is 50-60 year old overweight males and your marketing to females from 20-30 years old, then you’re just not going to get sales. You get the picture.
Once you have all three of the items in The Marketing Triangle right, you’ll have the best chance at getting sales.
Now, let’s go through creating your customer avatar:
Identify ‘who’ your ideal audience is (your customer avatar).
Selling the wrong audience is like flushing money down the drain. To ensure that we get the most out of your marketing budget, you have to define who your ideal customer is. You do this by creating an ‘Avatar’.
What Is A Customer Avatar?
An avatar is a representation of your ideal customer.
To do this we create a mental picture of who they are, their habits, frustrations. Be as specific as possible.
Ask yourself questions like:
Who is your best customer? Where are they located?
Are they male or female?
What do they look like? What’s the average age? What’s their occupation?
Before you spend any money on traffic generation or ads, create your own customer avatar first. It will pay you huge dividends.
